Division Director - Alvey Blier
Division Bylaws - 2022: Single A Bylaws
Instructional Baseball for ages 5-8. Single A is for young players who have graduated from Tee Ball and are ready to begin to learn the basics of baseball. A lot of opportunity for development and instruction, but real-games and game situations. Coach pitched.
Player Expectations
Players should be familiar with all Tee Ball expectations as well as the following.
- Proper throwing techniques and throwing with 4 seams. Forming T with arms and glove should facing throwing partner. While looking at throwing partner stepping towards and throwing the ball.
- Good defensive ready positions and not to be flat footed. Small step movements as pitcher (coach) throws the ball. Then to reset to starting position.
- Improve on their fielding and catching skills. Good fielding positioning with knees properly bent and feet slightly wider than their shoulders. Good side to side movement. Charging the ball.
- Not to block base paths.
- Start practicing the catchers’ position. Players at this level should not catch from their knees but rather use the primary catchers’ position. Glove hand out in front with elbow above and throwing hand tucked to side of player behind throwing arm knee.
- Players should start to learn proper dugout behavior. Focus on the game while in the dugout becomes more important as the player moves up in divisions.
